BROKEN

Poetic Bloomings has come up with a wordle for its prompt #23, http://poeticbloomings2.wordpress.com/2011/10/02/wither-goest-thou-kevin-bacon-prompt-23/.  The words are: lonely, energy, headlines, wander, music and joke. Wordles are too much fun to pass up.

BROKEN
by Mike Patrick

In a funk, he wanders the streets,
lonely, living on old headlines,
hoping someone will recognize him.
His music is gone now, forgotten.
There are no adoring crowds,
no paparazzi trailing behind.
The energy he generated
has dissipated.
His name is not even a joke,
it is forgotten,
an unvisited page of Wikipedia.

Liked the sentiment expressed….especially the way you ended it….

The finality of slipping into obscurity – that last line is excellent. Sums it up a treat. Desolate.

Your image of a once-famous musician is powerfully drawn. The unvisited Wikki page is a poignant reminder of the ephemeral nature of fame.

When I was a kid I memorized Casey at the Bat and part of Casey’s Revenge…in Casey’s Revenge there is a line…’all fame is fleeting as the wind and glory fades away….’ Every famous person who lives long enough will live to see the truth of these words. I too like your last line; it was the ending that made one say ‘Yes! Perfect!’

My brother who is 46 recited both poems to me last summer. He memorized both of them as a boy. I have a secret bet going on with myself…in years to come he is going to write poetry…he has a poet’s heart.

    Beautiful and so sad…
