One of Big Tent Poetry’s http://bigtentpoetry.org/ NaPoWriMo prompts is “Write a poem that starts with: I am sorry about ________.” I worked off vivid memories on this one.

I’m sorry I forgot
our anniversary.
Somehow that simple knot
on my finger had gone free.

It’s a matter of time
before you will forgive,
but do I have to find
another place to live?

Must my shorts be crisp starched,
my meals all over cooked?
Assault was still a crime
when last I took a look.

Next year I’ll remember,
It’s a promise I do make
if forgetting this one
doesn’t end with my wake.
